Memories of a Social Future is a presentation divided into two parts. The first part features a screening of We Love Candy but Our Passion is Collecting Art (2008-2009), a video loosely based on France/Tour/Detour/Deux/Enfants (Jean-Luc Godard and Anne Marie Mieville, 1977-1978) that investigates childhood as an alternative utopian energy able to change the viewer’s position as a consumer of art and culture.

This is followed by the screening of three of her most recent works: The Lounge of Ethereal Fun (2008), a VIP room at the PULSE Contemporary Art Fair in New York inspired by We Love Candy…; Red Eyed Sky Walkers (2008-2010), a public participation installation that investigates the relationship between performance and surveillance; and FRAGILE (2010), a combination of performance and fashion within the structure of a social gathering that attempts to create contexts for interaction and communication.

Marketou’s work has been shown at the ZKM (Karlsruhe), the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi (Florence), the New Museum (New York) and the Manifesta 1 contemporary art biennial in Rotterdam, among other institutions.
