José Gutiérrez Solana

This catalogue accompanies the presentation of the Banco Santander Collection of Solana works in the Museo Reina Sofía. In the said pieces, Solana develops his more customary iconographic motifs: popular emblems and customs, portraits, carnival scenes and representations of bullfights, from a Solanian perspective of the sordid and the macabre. A selection of historical texts written by different authors and a catalogue raisonné description serve as companion pieces for the illustrations.
