Lucio Fontana
Between Material and Space
Anticipating the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Lucio Fontana, this catalogue surveys the eponymous retrospective on the artist. The essays contained within elucidate the forms with which he adapted his stance with regard to figuration, as well as the dismantling of the borders between painting and sculpture which operated across his career, up to the formulation of a personal language which becomes universally recognisable. Defined by a constant investigative undertaking, Fontana’s art-making is analysed in this volume as a dialogue between the individual and his physical social environment and as the search for the transcendental.
