Rachel Whiteread

A catalogue of the first retrospective on Rachel Whiteread held in Spain, presenting, in the Palacio de Velázquez, her work from the period spanning 1988 to 1996. In his essay, Michael Tarantino arrives at Whiteread from the architectural painters of the seventeenth century and the film-making of Antonioni; Stuart Morgan analyses her emblematic work House; Bartomeu Marí considers how Whiteread challenges categories of sculpture; and an essay by Rosalind Krauss situates her work within the methodological concerns around the “index”, that which does not represent reality but is instead shaped as a hollowing-out or footprint.
