Ree Morton

This catalogue for the exhibition bearing the same title presents a retrospective gaze at the work of North American artist Ree Morton (Ossining, New York, 1936 – Chicago, 1977). Morton’s work, distanced from the US scene leading up to the 1970s, punctuated by Minimalism, Conceptual Art and Pop Art, is related to the artistic strategies that surfaced around movements such as Pattern and Decoration, Fiber Art or what Lucy R. Lippard defined as “eccentric abstraction”. The publication includes four texts which analyse the life and work of the artist, and the significance of space, poetics and language in her artistic practice. Both the exhibition and the publication constitute a commitment to recovering and re-evaluating the work of this artist, seldom shown individually.
